Huang He Datong and vicinities. Having arrived to Datong, it is necessary to look at such Chinese sights there, as Yungans caves.

Perhaps, the most considerable Chinese sights in Datong – Yungan’s caves – a visible example of, how пререплетались culture of China and India in the ancient time, also, in fact, a museum open-air where the ancient Chinese sculpture is presented. The construction of caves has begun in 453 g during the stay of Datong the dynasty capital Wei and about 525 g, with capital transfer to Loyang have been interrupted. Caves were under construction in such order: at first the cavity in rock top then builders have started a gouging of caves in the heart of the rock and its slopes has been cut. Finally there were two artificial caves – one over another. 40 000 handicraftsmen have been involved in construction from the different countries; W. h. it was the population of India and China, also Central Asia. Traces of zabugorny influences are clearly looked through in a carved decor. It and Greek motives (shamrocks and leaves of an akant), and Persian symbolics (lions and tool), and bearded figures. The religion of India and China has left the mark, and as a result here it is possible to meet even images of induistsky deities of Shiva and Vishnu – they meet among an ordinary Chinese ornament from dragons and phoenixes. A number of Datong sculptures from sandstone – the first Chinese stone statues decorating cave interiors, – has much in common with terracotta figures of caves of Mogao near Dunkhua-na in Gansu which construction has begun several years before. Whereas others pointed, more linear абрисами remind later calcareous sculptures of Loyang. Vpribavok to everything, some figures of the sitting Buddha have sharp, actually Caucasian, noses.
The type of caves at present can mislead uninitiated guests – at first entrances in caves have been closed by wood facades, and the sculpture of old China is revetted with plaster and brightly painted. Huger on size of a sculpture are covered with invariable openings – at first wood props on which plaster coverings were modelled were inserted into them. Last centuries have differently managed with caves: some of them have very much suffered from weather influence, others have remained better. Are appreciable – the truth, to a lesser extent, than in Loyang, – and vandalism traces.

Permits to China from Novosibirsk use here already for many years deserved popularity at the Russian tourists.
